Frank J. Magner, 65, of Seneca Falls, and previously of Panama City, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at his home.
A private funeral service was held at the convenience of his family, and he was laid to rest at New York State Veterans Cemetery-Finger Lakes, with full military honors. For those wishing to make a donation in memory, donations may be made to Cyrus Garnsey VFW Post 1323, PO Box 181, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.
Frank was born in Miami, Fla., the son of Daniel and Marianne (Cooper) Magner. He joined the US Navy right after high school and made serving his country his career for the next 20 years. From the beginning of his career right up to his retirement, his specialty was EOD, and he retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer. He received many ribbons, medals, and honors over his career, and he was proud of every one of them. Even after retirement, Frank worked as an EOD consultant that sent him traveling to every corner of the world.
Frank had relocated to Seneca Falls in the late 1990s and ended up crossing paths with Rita Campagna, the woman who would become his wife of 16 years. The two hit it off from the beginning and were united in marriage on July 20, 2007, at St. Patrick’s Church in Seneca Falls.
Frank was the kind of man to take initiative and always found ways to keep himself busy. He enjoyed working with his hands as a woodworker, winemaking with family, and had recently taken up welding. While he enjoyed his military career, he was also quite fond of retirement and the freedom that it brought him. He loved the Finger Lakes, and hopping on his Harley for a ride through the countryside was one of his greatest joys. Spending time with family and close friends always brought a smile to Frank’s face.
Frank is survived by his wife, Rita Campagna-Magner; sons Daniel (Nichole) and Michael (Ellen); mother Marianne Magner; grandchildren Lucy Magner and Evan Clark; brothers Michael (Teresa) and Daniel; sisters Susan and Nancy Magner, Laura Stockman and Leslie (Kevin) Cosgrove; half-sister Rosanne King; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was predeceased by his father, Daniel, and sister, Maris Benowitz-Dahlberg.
