Jeff McNeil’s ninth-inning home run lifted the New York Mets (70-80) over the Miami Marlins (78-73), 2-1, on Monday night at LoanDepot Park.
With the game knotted at one, McNeil crushed his 10th home run of the season over the right-field wall off Marlins lefty Tanner Scott, and Adam Ottavino closed it out, giving the Mets their second straight victory.
Mark Vientos plated the first run with an RBI single, which opened the scoring.
Jose Butto turned in another really strong outing, allowing just one run over six innings while striking out six.
The Mets will hand the ball to Joey Lucchesi on Tuesday as they try to take the first two games of this three-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
