Ontario County officials warn residents of voter registration scam

Officials from the Ontario County elections board have issued a warning to local voters about a scam involving impersonators of Board of Elections staff members.

These scammers approach residents at their homes, claiming to investigate multiple entries of their names in the statewide voter database and may even accuse them of illegal activities.

The duo emphasizes that the Board of Elections does not carry out door-to-door checks related to voter registrations. With the 2023 election season on the horizon, voters might come across representatives from political organizations or advocacy groups, but anyone asserting to be from the county’s Board of Elections should be treated with skepticism.

Residents encountering such individuals are urged to immediately report to the county by calling 585-396-4005 or emailing [email protected].
