  • Staff Report

Matthew Carnicelli, a 35-year-old Auburn resident, has been sentenced to 3.5 to 7 years in state prison for second-degree manslaughter and seven years in prison with three years of post-release supervision for third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Carnicelli admitted in court to selling a fentanyl compound that resulted in an overdose death last year.

Carnicelli admitted during his plea that he was aware of the potential fatal risks when he sold the fentanyl-laced heroin, which led to the victim’s death. Furthermore, Carnicelli acknowledged possessing the fentanyl with the intent to sell it, and was found with more than 1/8 of an ounce of the substance at his residence the day after the victim’s overdose.
