A 60-year-old man from Newark, Frederick Trevitt, has been arrested in Wayne County on charges of child pornography.
The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York, Trini Ross, announced the arrest in a press release. The charges against Trevitt include receipt and possession of child pornography and carry a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years.
According to the complaint, state police investigators discovered 36 files of suspected child pornography during an undercover online operation last August. The IP address was traced back to Trevitt’s residence, and a search warrant was executed last month. During the search, multiple electronic devices were seized, and a forensic analysis of a laptop computer found more than 100 child pornography files.
Trevitt made an initial appearance in federal court on Wednesday. The investigation was a joint effort by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, state police, and the Wayne County district attorney’s office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan McGuire is handling the case.
