An emergency declaration was made in New York State on Sunday night after the area was hit by a massive snow storm.
The declaration allows for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to handle the relief efforts following the storm. On Saturday an emergency declaration was requested by Governor Kathy Hochul for the counties expected to be hit the hardest.
These counties included
- Cattaraugus
- Chautauqua
- Erie
- Genesee
- Jefferson
- Lewis
- Niagara
- Oneida
- Oswego
- St. Lawrence
- Wyoming
According to 13 WHAM, when emergency declarations are made, up to 75% of the cost of damages are reimbursed to counties by the federal government.
