Syracuse drops second in a row to Colgate, 80-68 (full coverage)

After eight days off between games, the Syracuse Orange Men’s Basketball team returned to the court against the Raiders of Colgate. In a repeated feat of last season, Colgate visited the JMA Dome and upset the Orange 80-62. For the first time since 1962, the Raiders down the Orange in back-to-back seasons.

Syracuse took an early lead, however lost it quickly. With 15:50 to go in the first half, Colgate’s Oliver Lynch-Daniels hit a three to make it 8-5 Raiders and the squad out of nearby Hamilton never looked back. The Raiders were red-hot from beyond the three-point line going 19-38 from deep. Senior guard Tucker Richardson of Colgate had a game high 27 points, including going 7-11 from three. Four Syracuse players, all starters, made it to double-digits scoring. Leading the Orange was freshman Judah Mintz, netting 20 points, collecting four rebounds, dishing two assists and two steals. Benny Williams rebounded from rough opening night to score 17, snagging eight rebounds, and collecting an assist, steal and block. Joe Girard, III scored 14 and Jesse Edwards netted 10 points to round out the starting five’s total scoring.

The Orange move to 1-1 on the young season. Syracuse will host Northeastern out of the CAA on Saturday at 2 p.m. Colgate now boasts a 3-1 record and host Duquesne on Friday night at 6 p.m.
