Canandaigua Lake has a half-dozen new harmful algal blooms.
The Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association reported six new blooms, mostly coming from the east side of the lake, as of late-Friday.
“Today’s calm weather means we may get more reports from other areas of the lake as the day progresses,” CLWA said in an email. “Please keep an eye out for signs of surface streaking of algae, heavy ‘dots in the water’, surface scum, or green/discolored water. These areas should be avoided.”
There are a number of potential health risks associated with people or animals encountering HAB-infested waters. However, the blooms typically dissipate in a matter of days.
