More guns found after officers fatally shot in Onondaga County: Suspect was likely high on cocaine

Investigators from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office discovered additional firearms at a Salina residence where a fatal shootout occurred on Sunday, claiming the lives of two police officers and the assailant. The search, which began Tuesday morning and continued throughout the day, is expected to extend into Wednesday, according to Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

During the search, multiple hunting rifles and two gun cabinets were found in bedrooms of the house at 4945 Darien Dr. The area was cordoned off with yellow tape as officers meticulously examined and documented the scene, removing guns in clear plastic bags for further analysis to determine ownership and legality.

The investigation also led to the recovery of a white substance suspected to be cocaine, further complicating the aftermath of a confrontation that ended with the deaths of Syracuse Police Officer Michael E. Jensen, Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Hoosock, and the gunman, identified as Christopher R. Murphy. The substance is slated for laboratory testing to confirm its identity.
