Eric D. Hosmer, 55, from Canisteo, was arrested on Tuesday following his alleged involvement in a violent break-in at a residence on Maple Street the previous evening. The Canisteo Village Police Department reported that Hosmer forcibly entered the home, assaulted and choked the occupant, resulting in several injuries to the victim.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, April 15, prompted an immediate police response. However, Hosmer had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. The victim was found in the home and subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment, where they are currently recovering.

Hosmer was located and apprehended near his residence on Tuesday morning. He has been charged with second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, second-degree strangulation, and third-degree criminal mischief. Following his arrest, Hosmer was processed at the Canisteo Village Police Department and then taken to Steuben County Jail to await further legal proceedings.
