A horse from a farm in the town of Farmington made its way onto the New York State Thruway on Saturday.
The traffic back-up lasted nearly two miles, according to drivers and transportation officials.
State police said the horse suffered a leg injury, but its owner was able to place the horse in a trailer and return it to the farm.
The incident took around 50 minutes to clear from start-to-finish.
