Yankees reinstate Luis Severino from COVID-19 injured list

Following Thursday’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, the New Yankees reinstated starting pitcher Luis Severino from the COVID-19 injured list and designated right-hander Ryan Weber for assignment.

Severino had been scheduled to start Thursday’s game against the Rays, but he experienced symptoms including a fever and chills after Wednesday’s game. He has not tested positive for COVID-19, according to manager Aaron Boone, and will travel with the team to Toronto.

Weber, 31, pitched 3 2/3 innings of one-run ball in the Yankees’ 2-1 victory over the Rays on Thursday. Weber was 2-2 with a 2.95 ERA in eight games (four starts) at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. A seven-year big league veteran, Weber appeared in four games last season for the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, and Seattle Mariners.

It is not yet known when Severino will make his next start.
