Gas stimulus: False Facebook post claims stimulus money will be sent

Recently, a false Facebook post stated, “President Biden confirmed everyone will receive their $1k gas (stimulus) checks this week.”

This statement posted on June 12, 2022, is false.

No federal payments are being issued for gas relief.

As gas prices continue to rise with no end in sight, Americans are hoping for help from the federal government.

Unfortunately, that is not happening.

Facebook flagged the false information in its News Feed as an attempt at combating false news.

There have been proposals for a gas stimulus package to try and help the burden of fuel prices felt by Americans.

None have gained any traction or made it past Congressional committees.


Is there any gas stimulus help coming?

Fortunately there are some states willing to help offset the gas price burden for some residents.

Idaho is sending checks worth $75 to residents.

Maine has approved payments of $850 for their residents who meet the income requirements.

As desperation grows and prices rise, scams and false information has spread rapidly.
