Yankees rally to defeat Twins in series finale

The New York Yankees rallied to defeat the Minnesota Twins, 10-7, on Thursday night at Target Field. With the victory, New York won the series by taking two of three.

Gerrit Cole started on the bump for the Yankees and had the worst outing of his career. The right-hander allowed seven runs on five home runs over 2 1/3 innings, including back-to-back-to-back solo shots in the first.

New York’s bullpen did an outstanding job. Lucas Luetge (2.1 IP), Miguel Castro (1.1 IP), Wandy Peralta (1.0 IP), Michael King (1.0 IP), and Clay Holmes (1.0 IP) combined for scoreless outings.

Josh Donaldson gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly.

Joey Gallo blasted a two-run home run in the second to tie the game at three.

Gallo and DJ LeMahieu hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth, cutting the Twins’ lead to 7-5.

Aaron Hicks crushed a game-tying two-run home run in the sixth.

Anthony Rizzo put the Yankees back on top in the seventh with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Aaron Hicks hammered an RBI single to make it 9-7.

Rizzo scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to extend the lead to 10-7.

LeMahieu, Rizzo, Donaldson, Torres, Hicks, and Gallo each finished with two-hit games. Everyone in the starting lineup had at least a hit except for Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

The Yankees will head back to the Bronx to begin a three-game series with the Cubs on Friday night. Luis Severino will get the ball.
