Americans are set to receive payments in June.

Tax rebates are refunds given back to taxpayers. They are usually a one-time payment, similar to stimulus checks. UBI stands for universal basic income. This comes as recurring payments for needy Americans.

1. Chicago, Illinois
Eligible Chicago residents can apply each month to be entered into a lottery for prepaid gas and transit cards. You must be a resident to apply, at least 18 years old, and have a valid city sticker. Your income must also be at or below 100% of the area median income.
There will be a lottery the second week of each month until September. You’ll have to apply before the 1st of each month to be considered. If you’ve been selected, you will be notified via email.
50,000 $150 prepaid gas cards and 100,000 $50 prepaid transit cards will be distributed. You can apply online or at any Chicago public library.
2. Ithaca, New York
More than 100 Ithaca residents will start getting monthly payments this month. The $450 payments will go out for a year. In order to qualify, you must be a caregiver whose 2021 income was below 80% of the area median. The median incomes for the area are:
- Household of one – $50,200
- Household of two – $57,400
- Household of three – $64,550
- Household of four – $71,700
- Household of five – $77,450
- Household of six – $83,200
- Household of seven – $88,950
- Household of eight – $94,650
Applications closed on December 17, but payments are set to roll out via prepaid cards this month.
3. Maine
About 850,000 Maine residents will get rebate checks worth $850. However, there is an income limit:
- single filer- can not exceed $100,000
- head of households- can not exceed $150,000
- couples filing jointly- can not exceed $200,000
The rebate is based on 2021 tax returns and must be filed by October 31st to be considered.
4. Massachusetts
Massachusetts is paying those who worked in the front lines during the height of the pandemic with a $500 stimulus. Thousands of employees will be getting one-time payments through the Massachusetts’s Essential Employee Premium Pay program. This month nearly 330,000 residents will get a check. In order to be eligible, you need to have made at least $13,500 and filed a tax return. Your income also has to be at or below 300% of the federal poverty level.
