New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom was scheduled to make his final start of the spring on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals, but that likely won’t happen.
Manager Buck Showalter told reporters Thursday night that deGrom felt some tightness in his right shoulder while playing catch. He has not been officially scratched from the start, but he will evaluated again on Friday.
Showalter said that deGrom will likely get an MRI if he doesn’t pitch Friday.
The two-time Cy Young winner was limited to only 15 starts in 2021 and was shut down in early July with inflammation and soreness in his pitching arm.
The Mets open the regular season on April 7 against the Washington Nationals in D.C.
