Early Saturday morning, firefighters from the Enfield Volunteer Fire Company successfully extinguished a vehicle fire that posed a significant threat to nearby structures and propane tanks. The incident, reported just after 6 a.m. by Tompkins County 911, occurred perilously close to a residence.
Upon arrival at the scene, the crew from Enfield’s engine 601 quickly deployed a hand-line to combat the fire, which was approximately 15 feet from the house and propane storage. Their prompt action prevented the fire from spreading to these critical exposures. To ensure the blaze was thoroughly quelled, firefighters applied large quantities of water to cool any hot spots and to check for potential fire extensions in the vehicle’s passenger compartment and trunk.

Supporting units, including tankers 621 and 622, provided essential water supply and standby assistance. The operation was also backed by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and the Newfield Fire Company, highlighting a collaborative effort to manage the emergency effectively.
