One dead after structure fire in Corning: Firefighters say clutter made battling blaze difficult

One person has died after a fire in Corning on January 15.

Around 1:30 p.m. firefighters in Corning were called to the scene of a two-story structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters were informed that there may be a body inside.


While putting out the blaze firefighters did find a deceased person inside. The body was removed by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters said the clutter inside the home made it very difficult to extinguish.

No names have been released yet pending results of an autopsy.
