The IRS is working to get plus up payments out to Americans that filed their 2020 taxes showing they were eligible for the stimulus check.
As the year comes to a close, many people are waiting for various types of refunds from 2020, despite 2022 being only days away.
The plus up payment is a stimulus payment that helps Americans get the amount they were originally entitled to when the third round of checks were sent.

If you think you might qualify, you need to get your 2020 tax return filed as soon as possible.
Payments are normally issued within two weeks of your return being filed.
If you file it now, you won’t see a plus up payment before the year ends, but you’ll get the payment if you make the deadline.

What happens if I don’t file for a plus up payment in time?
If you were entitled to a third payment but got less or none at all, you can claim the amount with the Recovery Rebate Credit on your taxes next year.
The deadline to file in 2022 will be April 18.
The deadline could change due to COVID-19, similarly to last year, but that has yet to be announced.
