Woman sentenced to federal prison for theft of government funds

A woman will spend 8 months in federal prison for theft of government funds.

Lavella Williams, 54, of Boise Idaho, had a joint account with her mother-in-law who had her social security benefits deposited into it.

After her mother-in-law passed away, Williams and her ex-husband spent the money.

In total they spent $55,000 between April of 2016 and June of 2019.

They were aware the money was not theirs to spend.

She is ordered to pay $55,422 in restitution to the Social Security Administration, spend 8 months in prison, and serve three years of post release supervision.
