The Mets placed closer Edwin Diaz on the Paternity List prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Marlins in Miami.
Speaking before the game, manager Luis Rojas suggested during an appearance on Carton & Roberts on WFAN that it was unlikely Diaz would be back in time for Thursday’s 12:10 p.m. game against the Marlins but didn’t rule it out.
In Diaz’s absence, Rojas listed Trevor May, Jeurys Familia, Aaron Loup, and Seth Lugo as potential options to close.
Lugo, who pitched two innings on Tuesday night, will almost certainly not be available on Wednesday night.
Diaz had a rough patch in July where he blew three saves in a row, but has been dominant over his last five appearances, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings while allowing two hits, two walks, and striking out nine.
