Here’s how New York State plans to get COVID-19 vaccine distributed in coming months

How is New York State going to rollout the COVID-19 vaccine to the general public?

It will be a complex effort, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo, who unveiled his plans during a press conference on Tuesday.

There will be drive-thru vaccination efforts, which will take place at sites like colleges and universities across the state. And New York State is also asking that fire, police, and transit agencies figure out how to create their own vaccine distribution plans.

Vaccine distribution sites include long-term care facilities, pharmacies, hospitals, urgent care facilities, and community centers across New York. “We’ve signed up hundreds in every region in the state,” Cuomo said on Tuesday. The expectation is that there will be more to come.

He also noted that all healthcare workers in New York are eligible to receive the vaccine. He and other state officials expect the refusal rate within the healthcare worker community to range between 15-30%.
