A recreational vehicle parked in the quiet downtown Nashville on Christmas Day exploded after a stark warning had been played over a loudspeaker there.
Police responded for the report of shots fired in the area when they encountered the RV blasting a warning that a bomb would detonate in 15 minutes.
Police emptied nearby buildings, which ultimately saved lives.
“This morning’s attack on our community was intended to create chaos and fear in this season of peace and hope. But Nashvillians have proven time and time again that the spirit of our city cannot be broken,” Mayor John Cooper said at a news conference.
No fatalities have been reported yet, and while police believe it was an intentional act – a motive or target is not yet known. Three people were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries but were listed in stable condition over the weekend.
