Walmart is challenging the property assessment for its Auburn, New York store, arguing it’s overvalued by $6 million, according to The Citizen. The company claims the $13.5 million assessment is excessive and includes items not subject to taxation.
The retail giant wants its valuation reduced to $7.5 million and is taking the case to state Supreme Court this November. Walmart previously accepted the current figure during a 2022 reassessment, but now argues it’s being taxed unfairly compared to other local properties.
Other Auburn businesses, including McDonald’s and Nucor, are also seeking major assessment reductions. Walmart alone paid nearly $453,000 in local taxes last fiscal year.
