The Auburn Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a potential suspect, who may have been involved in the vandalism of a Black Lives Matter banner.
Police say the person captured in surveillance footage is believed to be responsible for cutting the word ‘Black’ out of the Black Lives Matter banner at the Westminster Church.
It happened last Monday, and police have been investigating since the incident.
Chief Shawn Butler tells Finger Lakes News Radio that investigators were combing through surveillance video from the William Street area, and on Friday they released photos from the video that shows a while male, wearing a dark hooded shirt, black sneakers, and dark colored shorts approach the banner.
Anyone with information that could help police with the investigation should call 315-253-3231.
