Sheriff: Geneva man was running illegal gambling operation, arrested on felony charges

A Geneva man was arrested on felony drug charges and found to be running an illegal gambling operation in Ontario County, according to Sheriff Kevin Henderson.

Sheriff Henderson reports the arrest of Michael Yunits, 42, of Geneva. He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first-degree possession of gambling records.

Both charges are felonies, which follow an investigation that began during the fall with the execution of a search warrant.

On September 17th deputies were assisted by Geneva and Canandaigua police when they executed a search warrant on Yunits home on County Road 4.

During the search deputies located more than a half-ounce of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and several ledgers used to track illegal bets on both college and pro football over the last several years.

On December 20th, deputies say Yunits turned himself in to investigators. He was arraigned and released. The charges will be answered in Geneva Town Court at a later date.
