Syracuse gets hammered by Penn State, 85-64 (full coverage)

A tough shooting night left Syracuse (4-3) with its second straight loss, falling to Penn State (6-1), 84-65, Friday night at the Barclays Center. The Nittany Lions earned third place in the NIT Season Tip-Off tournament with the win.

Elijah Hughes once again paced the Orange, finishing with 19 points. Freshman Quincy Guerrier scored his first career collegiate double-double with 13 points and 10 rebonds.

Longtime rivals Syracuse and Penn State will meet on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in the NIT Season Tipoff at the Barclay’s Center. It marks the first meeting between the two schools since 1982.

Syracuse (4-2, 0-1) had its four-game winning streak snapped in an 86-72 setback to Oklahoma State on Wednesday in Brooklyn. Redshirt junior Elijah Hughes scored a career-high 28 points to lead the ‘Cuse effort. He was 8-for-10 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Freshman Joseph Girard III also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points to go along with a season-best nine assists.

Penn State suffered a 74-72 loss to Ole Miss on Wednesday, ending its five-game winning streak to start the season.
