October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Willow Domestic Violence Center is looking to raise awareness by changing the words we use when talking about the subject.
The center unveiled a new campaign Thursday – in which the word “domestic” is replaced.
“Even the phrase ‘domestic violence’ is something we’re pretty used to,” said Willow President and CEO Meaghan de Chateauvieux “It’s become part of our general awareness. And to unpack those words and, instead of saying ‘domestic’, which can make us feel like something is a private family matter or behind closed doors or somehow softer or less severe than other forms of violence, we’re calling it what it is.”
Willow’s campaign ads will use language meant to more deeply resonate with people.
