The Oxygen Bassano defender dogged Jalen Carey.
He picked him up at about three-quarter court. And he stayed with Carey as the sophomore point guard navigated the floor, pushing toward the Syracuse offensive end.
Carey stayed calm. He stayed collected. He dribbled the ball into the lane and lofted a jump shot that splashed through the rim.
All of this was very good news for Carey, who struggled last year to corral his speedy pace, to understand how to control the game’s flow. The Orange point guard scored 11 points in 14 minutes and 41 seconds of Syracuse’s 103-54 throttling of Bassano. He shot 5-of-7 overall and made one of the two 3-point shots he attempted.
