The Mynderse-Romulus girls lacrosse team avenged an earlier season loss last night vs. Penn Yan at East Rochester HS field. The 11-7 win against the storied Penn Yan lacrosse team was a first in sectional play for the Blue Devils. M-R added another record breaking win and improved to a Section V best, 16-2 overall record. The #9 state ranked Mynderse-Romo squad will be appearing in it’s first ever sectional final game Wednesday night vs. the defending NYS Section V Class D champions Pal-Mac Red Raiders. Pal-Mac handed Mynderse-Romulus with their first loss of the season winning 15-4 at Bracht field on May 1st.
Mynderse jumped on Penn Yan early and often taking control at the draw circle 7-3 in the first half. M-R capitalized on possessions taking an 8-1 lead into halftime. Coach Foster commented, “the girls played a complete first half, from the draw control, to finishing chances offensively and pressuring on defense when Penn Yan had possession.” Foster added, “first year sophomore goalie Izzy Foster, “made a couple big saves early to slow their momentum, Izzy continues to improve every game”. Coach Foster also commented, “We have really had an all-around team effort all season, Penn Yan has some skilled, young players that are tough to contain, our defense has really been up to the challenge throughout the entire season”.
For M-R, Shae McConnell led the scoring with 3 goals, Caitlyn Korzeniewski had 2 goals and 1 assist, Sadie Bonetti and Sydney Sandroni added 2 goals. Marguax Eller and Brook Bonetti added a goal apiece. Foster made 7 saves in the goal. For Penn Yan(11-5), Hayley Andersen scored 2 and assisted 2, Grace Ledgerwood 3 goals, Sydney Hulse 1 goal, Kaley Griffin 1 goal, 1 assist. Alex Cox made 6 saves.
