GIRLS LACROSSE: Victor makes history with fifth straight state title

The Victor Blue Devils added another chapter to their dynasty Saturday, defeating Garden City 13-5 in the NYSPHSAA Class B championship game at SUNY Cortland to capture a fifth consecutive New York State title.

With the victory, Victor became just the second girls lacrosse program in state history to win five straight state championships, matching a feat previously accomplished by Garden City.

The Blue Devils seized control early, scoring four unanswered goals to open the game and taking a 5-2 lead after the first quarter. Victor extended its advantage to 8-3 by halftime before putting the game away in the third quarter.

McKenna Anderson led the Blue Devils with four goals, all scored in the second half. She fueled Victor’s decisive third-quarter surge by scoring three times during an eight-minute span as the lead grew to 11-3 entering the final quarter.

Victor received multiple goals from Camryn Adrid, Gianna Hedden and Carlina DiFondi, while five different players scored during the opening quarter. Goalkeeper Mia Finocchario also came through with a pair of point-blank saves in the fourth quarter to help preserve the comfortable lead.
