State police investigator charged with DWI after crash in Corning

A New York State Police investigator faces charges following an accident Friday in Corning.

State troopers responded around 9:18 a.m. Friday to a report of a two-vehicle personal injury accident in the eastbound lane of Interstate 86 in the town of Corning.

The operator of an eastbound vehicle attempted to overtake another eastbound vehicle and struck that vehicle from behind, state police said.

The operator of the vehicle attempting to pass was Randy Hugg, 53, a senior state police investigator, troopers said.

Hugg was off duty at the time of the crash, state police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, and was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
