Cornell graduate students bring research into focus with five-minute talks

Cornell graduate students distilled their research into five-minute presentations at the university’s Oct. 16 Volunteer Summit, according to Cornell.

The Research Lightning Talks: Big Ideas Demystified program gave volunteers a quick introduction to work across academic fields.

Presenters included Zander Lynch, Subash Bhandari, Joy Yuri Kim and David Tompkins.

The format drew inspiration from Three Minute Thesis, a competition that challenges researchers to explain their work clearly to a broad audience.

The summit presentations used a five-minute limit to make complex ideas accessible to people outside the speakers’ specialties.
