Hochul campaign seizes on Vance’s New York crime, investment posts

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s campaign pointed to Vice President JD Vance’s social media posts about New York crime and investment figures Monday, arguing that they highlighted her record ahead of Election Day. The posts shared in the campaign’s release did not explicitly credit Hochul or endorse her.

Vance wrote, “We got your back, New York!” above a White House graphic, according to a screenshot distributed by the campaign. Other screenshots touted safer communities and historic investments.

The campaign framed the posts as praise for Hochul’s public safety and economic development work. It cited her administration’s public safety spending and Micron’s planned semiconductor project in Clay, in Onondaga County.

The White House graphics claimed a 48% drop in murders in New York state and the fewest shootings and shooting victims recorded in New York City history. The screenshots did not specify the periods used for those comparisons.

Micron’s New York project is a planned investment of up to $100 billion over more than two decades, according to the governor’s office. State officials have projected more than 50,000 regional jobs, including 9,000 direct Micron jobs.

“Take it from JD Vance: under Governor Kathy Hochul, jobs are up and crime is down,” campaign spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki said in the release.

The campaign’s response came a day before the election and also criticized Republican Bruce Blakeman.
