The New York State Nurses Association endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul's reelection campaign Monday, citing her support for safety-net hospitals and health care funding.
The endorsement, announced by Hochul's campaign, emphasized Medicaid reimbursements, hospital support and access to care.
“Nurses need a governor who is committed to defending New Yorkers against federal attacks on our healthcare and ensuring New York's safety net hospitals and patients are supported,” union President Nancy Hagans said in the campaign's announcement.
Hagans credited Hochul with working alongside city and state leaders to pass a budget that increased Medicaid reimbursements and funding for hospitals serving large numbers of uninsured and underinsured patients.
“We will continue to work with her administration to advocate for the safe staffing and access to quality care that every New Yorker deserves,” Hagans said.
Hochul said she was grateful for the support of nurses who keep New Yorkers safe and healthy.
Her campaign highlighted what it described as billions of dollars invested in health care worker bonuses, workforce development and hospital support, along with expanded access to affordable care.
