Drivers on Interstate 86 between Bath and Savona should expect intermittent lane reductions starting Monday, Oct. 26, as crews rehabilitate the pavement.
The New York State Department of Transportation said the work in Steuben County will extend from approximately one mile east of Exit 38, serving State Route 54, Bath and Hammondsport, to Exit 40 at State Route 226 in Savona.
Lane reductions are planned from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, ending Nov. 7. Overnight lane closures also may be needed to complete the project.
Intermittent, short-term closures are expected at the Exit 39 entrance and exit ramps, which serve State Route 415 and Bath. Drivers should follow posted detours using Route 415.
DOT advises motorists to anticipate delays and consider alternate routes if necessary. Construction is weather dependent, and the schedule may change based on conditions.
Drivers should slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Speeding fines are doubled in work zones, and two or more work-zone speeding convictions could lead to a driver's license suspension, according to DOT.
