The New York State Democratic Party criticized Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman on Thursday, invoking Saratoga County GOP Chairman Joseph Suhrada's announced plans to leave his party post.
The Times Union reported Wednesday that Suhrada planned to leave Thursday evening but keep his county Republican elections commissioner job. Republican lawmakers James Tedisco, Mary Beth Walsh and Matt Simpson had also called for his resignation.
In its Oct. 22 release, the Democratic Party described Suhrada as a Blakeman ally and sought to make his conduct an issue in the governor's race.
Party spokesperson Addison Dick criticized people who have appeared on Blakeman's campaign trail and urged employers to check their social media history and text messages.
The paper said the recorded basketball discussion included racial and anti-gay slurs. Suhrada said he was quoting “Cobb” and challenged the clip's timing.
