Hochul campaign, NY Democrats report .2 million raised

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s reelection campaign and the New York State Democratic Party raised more than $4.2 million during the October campaign-finance filing period, her campaign said Wednesday, with 13 days remaining before the Nov. 3 election.

The total includes $1 million for Friends for Kathy Hochul and more than $3 million for the state party. The campaign reported ending the period with more than $12.3 million in cash on hand, while the party reported $9.5 million.

The campaign put their combined available cash at about $22 million and described it as a record for New York Democrats at this point in an election cycle. The balances represent money held by the campaign and party separately, rather than a single Hochul campaign account.

The announcement follows a September fundraising report in which the campaign said the two operations had raised more than $8.5 million and held more than $33 million combined. Wednesday’s figures concern the later October reporting period.

For the latest period, the campaign reported support from 9,959 individual donors. It called that a record for this stage of the election cycle and said it was more than three times the previous mark at the comparable point.

The average online donation was $23, the campaign said. It also said it received grassroots contributions from all 62 New York counties for the fifth filing period in a row, with a majority of contributions coming from New Yorkers.

Campaign manager Preston Elliott said the funds would support advertising, door-to-door outreach and mail in the closing days of the election. He described the effort as aimed at electing Democrats up and down the ballot, including in U.S. House races.

New York’s general election is Nov. 3. Early voting runs Oct. 24 through Nov. 1, with hours varying by county, according to the state Board of Elections. Election Day polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
