Free South Bristol concert to pair candidate meet-and-greets with food drive Oct. 18

Citizens for South Bristol will hold a free concert and candidate meet-and-greet Sunday, Oct. 18, at The Woods, with attendees asked to bring shelf-stable food for the Naples Open Cupboard.

The gathering is scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. at 6021 Route 21 in South Bristol, according to an emailed advisory from the organizers. Naples singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Lipp is set to perform music drawing on Americana, bluegrass, folk and blues.

The event, called ā€œRock the Boat, Get Out and Vote!,ā€ is in its second year. There is no monetary admission fee, but organizers ask each attendee to bring at least one shelf-stable food item. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase at the venue.

The concert is intended to give residents an informal opportunity to speak with local and regional candidates before the Nov. 3 election. The advisory lists South Bristol Town Supervisor Lisa Moore, who is seeking re-election, along with Alissa Ellman, a candidate in New York's 24th Congressional District, and Michael Mills, a candidate in state Senate District 54.

State Assembly District 133 candidate Gladys Flores Garcia and Ontario County treasurer candidate Julio Chavez-Olivera are also listed. The advisory names Naples Town Supervisor John Cowley and Bristol town supervisor candidate Mike McClain among the expected participants.

The organizer describes the gathering as a music-focused community event with candidate conversations, rather than a formal debate or rally. The advisory does not specify a speaking schedule for the candidates.

Citizens for South Bristol said last year's event drew hundreds of people and collected approximately one ton of food for the Naples Open Cupboard. Those turnout and donation figures are the organizer's estimates.

The Woods is at 6021 Route 21. The event runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, and the requested food donations will benefit the Naples Open Cupboard. Organizers said they hope the food drive will again support local families.
