An Erwin man was arrested Sept. 30 after authorities accused him of using another person's benefit card to obtain food-stamp benefits in June, the Steuben County Sheriff's Office said.
Steven Roy, 42, of State Route 417, allegedly used a card issued by the Steuben County Department of Social Services on June 20 without authorization and obtained benefits he was not entitled to receive, according to the sheriff's Oct. 7 release.
Roy was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony, misuse of food stamps and petit larceny.
He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail without bail, the Sheriff's Office said.
The sheriff credited the county Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney's Office with assisting in the investigation.
