New York State will receive $1,466,049 in Federal Emergency Management Agency grants for disaster recovery work, U.S. Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer announced. The money will support repairs from severe weather and fires as well as reimbursement for pandemic-related emergency measures.
More than $1 million of the total is designated for repairs to infrastructure damaged by weather and fires, according to the senators' announcement. More than $400,000 will reimburse hospitals and health networks for emergency measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The announcement did not identify the communities, infrastructure projects, hospitals or health networks receiving the grants. It also did not provide individual award amounts, the incidents tied to the repair money or a timetable for payments.
Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said the grants would help communities address disaster damage and medical facilities recover pandemic costs. Schumer described the grants as support for communities dealing with both the pandemic and severe storms.
The senators' offices said they would continue monitoring distribution of the money to the affected communities. Their announcement did not describe any new application process for residents or local governments.
