New York withdrew a request to study a possible 3,000-bed prison shortly after seeking proposals for the work, according to Times Union.
The Office of General Services posted the request Friday for architectural and engineering services, then removed it and marked the page updated Saturday.
A Department of Corrections and Community Supervision spokesperson said the request was withdrawn so officials could refine its scope and strategic focus.
Lawmakers criticized the proposal as existing prisons continue to face staffing and safety problems after the state closed more than two dozen facilities.
The request did not identify a location for the proposed prison, and the state announced no new timetable before withdrawing it.
