Gov. Kathy Hochul and Democratic lawmakers want to expand New York’s artificial intelligence regulations before the RAISE Act takes effect in January, according to Politico.
Hochul cited the lack of federal action but did not identify the additional state rules she may pursue.
State Sen. Kristen Gonzalez said she supports a rights-based framework built around liability, transparency and accountability.
Other proposals include tighter chatbot protections for minors and a possible state ban on the development of superintelligence.
The state also issued guidance for local data center negotiations that recommends community investments of at least $1 million per megawatt and cautions officials about nondisclosure agreements.
