Business and affordable-housing groups are preparing a renewed push to change New York’s Scaffold Law as construction costs remain a concern, according to Spectrum News.
The law makes property owners and contractors strictly liable in gravity-related injury cases, a standard critics say increases building expenses.
Carlina Rivera of the New York State Association for Affordable Housing said labor unions and developers have found common ground on worker safety.
Rivera said Gov. Kathy Hochul has discussed reform as part of a more aggressive housing agenda for the next legislative session.
A Hochul spokesperson said the governor is looking for ways to improve how New York builds but has no Scaffold Law proposal to announce before her January policy agenda.
