A 34-year-old man was pronounced dead after being struck by a westbound cargo train early Monday in the town of Macedon, according to an amended release from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded around 3:36 a.m. to the area of Walworth Road and the CSX railroad tracks after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a train.
Investigators said the man had been walking on the tracks when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His vehicle was found nearby after it had crashed into a ditch, deputies said. Authorities did not immediately release the man's name pending notification of his family.
The investigation remains ongoing.
New York State Police, South Macedon Fire Department, Macedon Center Fire Department, Macedon Town Ambulance and the Wayne County Highway Department assisted at the scene.
