Triple-A Syracuse Mets manager Dick Scott is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery for kidney cancer, the organization announced Tuesday. Scott has taken a leave of absence as he recovers, though the club said it hopes he will return before the end of the season.
Scott, 64, is in his fourth season managing Syracuse and his 13th year with the Mets organization. During his tenure, he has helped oversee the development of many of the franchise’s top prospects, including Brett Baty, Carson Benge, Nolan McLean, and Christian Scott. Before taking over the Triple-A club, Scott served in several key player development and major league roles throughout the organization.
His previous positions with the Mets include coordinator of coaching development and instruction from 2021-22, major league bench coach from 2016-17, director of player development from 2013-15 and minor league infield coordinator from 2011-12.
The Mets said Scott is recovering well following the procedure and remains on track to return to the dugout later this season.
