The New York Mets added an arm to their organization Monday, trading catcher Ben Rortvedt to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott.
McDermott, who was recently designated for assignment by Los Angeles, joins the Mets as their trade deadline sell-off continues.
Rortvedt, 28, spent the entire 2026 season at Triple-A Syracuse after joining the Mets organization. A defense-first catcher, he did not appear in the majors for New York but provided experienced depth behind the plate. Across parts of five major league seasons with the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays and Dodgers, Rortvedt owns a .190 batting average with nine home runs and a .549 OPS in 633 career plate appearances.
The Dodgers are bringing back a catcher familiar with the organization after Rortvedt appeared in 18 regular-season games and four postseason contests during their 2025 World Series championship run.
