Aaron Boone to return as Yankees manager in 2027

Aaron Boone will return as manager of the New York Yankees for the 2027 season, ESPN reported Monday, following another disappointing postseason finish. The Yankees were eliminated in the American League Division Series for the second consecutive year.

Boone, who will enter his 10th season managing New York, remains under contract through 2027 after signing a two-year, $10.5 million extension in February 2025.

Since replacing Joe Girardi in December 2017, Boone has guided the Yankees to eight playoff appearances in nine seasons, maintaining a .583 winning percentage.

Despite that regular-season success, New York has struggled to translate its postseason appearances into championships.

The Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009, extending their championship drought to 17 seasons, the second-longest stretch in franchise history.

New York reached the World Series under Boone in 2024 but fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. The Yankees also lost in the American League Championship Series to Houston in 2019 and 2022.

This year’s postseason ended with a three-game sweep against Tampa Bay, highlighted by defensive mistakes that contributed to another early elimination.

The Yankees committed three first-inning errors during Game 2 of the Division Series before the Rays completed the sweep at Yankee Stadium.

Following the elimination, Yankees captain Aaron Judge publicly supported Boone, pointing to the numerous injuries the team overcame throughout the season.

New York will now move forward with Boone leading the club as it continues pursuing its first championship in nearly two decades.
