Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and homemade vessels competed July 11 in the Huron Bicentennial People-Powered Boat Race on Great Sodus Bay, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The event at Oak Park Marina and Resort celebrated Huron’s 200th anniversary and the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Judges recognized participants across youth, teen and adult divisions for speed, decorations, costumes, humor and sinking performances.
Tucker Finch Shuman won the Best Overall Judges’ Choice Award for his homemade cardboard boat, “Boggan,” which was invited to appear at the Finger Lakes Classic Boat Show in Skaneateles.
Ethan Williams won a cruise for eight aboard the Rose Lummis but gave the prize to Maisie Howk and her family.
