A 207-mile march opposing animal testing reached its scheduled conclusion Saturday at Marshall BioResources in Wayne County, according to 13WHAM.
Organizers of the 14-day march from Albany called for research methods that do not use animals and planned a peaceful protest and evening candlelight vigil in Huron.
Marshall disputed activists’ abuse accusations and told the outlet that three unannounced USDA inspections in May, June and September resulted in no citations.
The company said it supports developing alternative methods but maintains that researchers still need animals alongside those approaches.
The demonstration coincided with proposed federal legislation from Reps. Nick Langworthy and Mark Pocan aimed at ending dog and cat testing in federally funded biomedical research.
